Appointments
Appointments System
The Leiston Surgery is open from 8.00am to 6.30pm weekdays for you to make an appointment with the Nurse, Health Care Assistant, Physiotherapist etc.
To make a Doctors Appointment please telephone the surgery between 8.00am and 5.00pm on the same day you would like to speak to/ see a doctor.
After 5.00pm you are unable to book a doctors appointment for that same day, where availability allows you may be able to book a pre bookable appointment for a later date. Please note if we reach full capacity earlier on in the day (before 5pm) we will be unable to offer a same day appointment.
Our Care Navigators will ask you the reason for your call in order for them to direct you to the most appropriate health care professional.
If you do require a doctor your name will be added to the 'call back' list for your usual/ requested GP, they will then contact you that same day.
If the GP thinks that you need to be seen face to face they will then arrange an appointment for you to be seen at a time that suits you.
If you would like the doctor to call you back at a certain time please let us know. Our workload changes throughout the day and can be unpredictable, so a call back time cannot always be guaranteed, but we will always try to accommodate this.
GP Usual Working Days
Urgent Appointments
In a serious emergency call 999 or go straight the nearest A&E department.
If you become ill after 4.00pm you should contact the surgery and speak to the receptionist explaining the nature of the emergency. You may then be added to the emergency call back list, a doctor will call you and may offer you an emergency appointment if appropriate.
Emergency appointments are not for repeat prescriptions, on-going conditions or the issuing of sick notes.
Cancel an Appointment
It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.
You can also cancel your appointment online. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays).
Home Visits
Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:30. Any late requests will be assessed for urgency by a doctor who will offer treatment as appropriate.
You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls
You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
